Madonna's tour reach Rome recently and Pope Benedict was not amused. Vatican officials are considering excommunicating Madonna for her portrayal Jesus' crucifixion. It's about time. Her antics are just pathetic now.

maybe everyone just needs to lighten up a little bit - and i mean everyone, the whole friggin world. madonna is an entertainer, nothing more. she's no sage, prophet or messiah. merely an entertainer going after shock value. she loves the publicity she knew this would generate it will sell lots of albums and concert tickets for her.
i think it would be a shame if she is excommunicated. not because i agree with her, not because i think the imagery she portrays makes sense or is appropriate, not at all. it's almost profane. we shouldn't lose the ability to freely express ourselves, no matter how much others agree or disagree. it's a slippery slope to start sending out a punishment like this because we disagree with an entertainers imagery. i don't like this anymore than i like to see a flag burned or a swaztika tatooed on somone's body or blazened on a shirt or arm band.
but as much as i find these things repulsive, i find that losing our right of free expression even worse.
First of all, no one is telling Madonna she can't insult anybody. She is free to blaspheme to her heart's content. Secondly, all an excommunication does is deny her access to the sacraments. She is not even Catholic anymore. So, I don't think an excommunication will bother her much.
Why is that when it comes to anti-catholicism it is always defended as free speech? Anti-catholicism is the anti-semitism of the left. To speak ill of any other group is considered "hate speech". No one would tolerate a performer doing a stage show in Jerusalem mocking the Holocaust. Madonna has made a career out of her hostility towards Catholicism. An excommunication is the only way Catholics can say "Hey Madonna...F*ck You!".
