Pfleger-ization of theCatholic Church?

It was heartbreaking to read Michelle Malkin's article yesterday entitled The Pfleger-ization of the Catholic Church. She is obviously upset, as we all are, with Cardinal George giving Fr. Pfleger an award for racial justice. When LifeSiteNews contact the Archdiocese about why a priest who supports pro-abortion political candidates would be given an award, Sr. Anita Baird (Director of the Office of Racial Justice) said "To be pro-abortion is that you believe in abortion and you support it. And I don't think you'll find that the president has ever said that.". Really. Hmmm.... When the sh*t hit the fan, she later clarified her statement.

"In order to clarify my quote that appeared on LifeSiteNews.com, I am affirming my belief in the teachings of the Catholic Church and understand that there can be no distinction between pro-abortion and pro-choice, because the choice at issue is the choice to kill a child.

I also apologize to those who were scandalized by my statement
."

Uh yeah.

Fr. Pfleger invited Harry Belafonte to speak at his St.Sabina church in 2003, and used the occassion to criticize George W. Bush's PRO-LIFE policies.

I share Michelle's anger. The reason why Cardinal George messed up on this one is because it is ridiculous to give an award for racial justice to someone who supports abortion. Why? Because the biggest scandal in the African-American community is black on black crime. Not only are blacks killing each other in the streets of Chicago, but they are also killing each other in the womb. 43% of black pregnancies end in abortion. Did you get that? Almost HALF of black pregnancies end in abortion. How can you say that you stand for racial justice when you condone the genocide silently taken place in the black community? For a Catholic priest to support this is beyond scandalous. Cardinal George knows this, which is why he hinted at this in his speech.

We are all upset by the recent press coverage of the church. However, it is important to remember that the church is not about Cardinal George. It is not about Sr. Anita Baird. It is not about Fr. Pfleger. It is not about abusive priests. It is about the Eucharist. It is about fidelity to Christ. Tomorrow is Divine Mercy Sunday. May Our Lord shower us with His mercy, and heal our wounds.
