I've spent all evening reading obituaries about Robert Novak. I am heartbroken. Although, after his two year long ordeal with brain cancer, I am sure he is in a much better place. I have been a fan since the eighties, when my mother got me hooked on Crossfire. She was a huge Novak fan as well. His cankerous style appealed to my mother's no nonsense sensibility. She loved to tell me how she was watching an interview with Kate O'Bierne (of National Review)and she mentioned how someone had gone up to Novak's wife and said "How can you be married to such a man?" and his wife Geraldine replied "Ah, he's a pussy cat!". My mother loved it! That such a hard hitting man was a real softy at heart. You can read this tribute from his hometown newspaper the Chicago Sun Times. I also like this tribute from Bernadette Malone, a newspaper reporter for the Manchester Union Leader who started her career on Bob Novak's staff. Mr. Novak was an original. He will be sorely missed.
