The Night Hollywood Died

I have to agree with most of the bloggers over at Big Hollywood that last night's Oscar ceremony is the night Hollywood died. I thought it was the worst Academy Awards Show I have ever seen. Just dull, boring, and full of it's own virtue. Most Academy Awards show are, but last night was when it all hit rock bottom. It sort of reminded me of Blago on Letterman. They just don't get it. The next time I hear a seven figure actor referred to as "Brave" or "Courageous" I am going to vomit. Brave about what? Playing a gay guy in a movie? For crying out loud, every actor in Hollywood wants a shot at play the "gay guy" in a movie. Everyone knows "Gay Guy Role = Oscar Gold". Think Tom Hanks in Philadelphia, Hillary Swank in Boys Don't Cry, Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Capote, the best movie nod for Brokeback Mountain. Puh Leeze!

Let's take a walk down common sense alley, shall we? The US soldiers fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq are "Brave" and "Courageous". If Hollywood wanted to be "Brave" and "Courageous" they would have stood up in solidarity with filmmaker Theo Van Gogh when he was murdered in 2004 by Islamic extremists. But, of course, they did not. Hollywood is not about courage, and never has been about courage. It's about propagating left wing politics and always has been. Which is precisely why Hollywood is irrelevant. Hollywood, my friends, is dead.
