McCain's Speech

Quick impression of McCain's speech:

I wasn't anticipating it nearly as much as Palin's, and to me overall it was flatter and less emotional....up until the end.  The end saved it completely, when he described his experience in Hanoi as a P.O.W.

I think the most compelling parts were where he described his background, his experience as a P.O.W.  I finally was able to understand why he acts how he acts, believes what he believes.  He is actually thankful for his experience as a POW - it made him realize that life is not about him.

This is Mc Cain's most explicit talking about his torture in public for the first time that I know of...this is compelling....very compelling, and it helps me to understand what drives him and why he does what he does....discusses being in a cell after being tortured... taps on a wall from a fellow prisoner communicate to him the message that no man can always stand alone...

"...he told me to get up and fight for my country, and for the men I serve with...because every day they fought for me....I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's..."

"FIGHT WITH ME!! STAND UP TO DEFEND OUR COUNTRY FROM ITS ENEMIES!  STAND UP AND FIGHT!  WE NEVER GIVE UP!  WE NEVER QUIT!  WE NEVER HIDE FROM HISTORY...WE MAKE HISTORY!!!!"

How in the hell are we actually in a neck-and-neck race with a race-hustler from Chicago who has never done anything????

Honestly...
