Although I think the coverage of Tim Russert's death has been a little much, I have enjoyed watching the clips of Russert with his father and son. Perhaps because I am an Irish Catholic, I find it is refreshing to hear commentators talk about Russert's blue collar background and his devotion to his faith. One clip in particular really got me choked up. Russert is being interviewed with his father. The younger Russert talks about how his father worked two jobs. One day, Big Russ buys his son a baseball mitt. But young Tim notices that it is not a brand named glove and is disappointed. His father sees his son's disappointment and walks away dejected. Tim then says "It was probably the best he could have afforded with the two jobs. I'm sorry Dad". Tim Russert's appeal was that he was Everyman. Tim, may flights of angels take thee to thy rest!
