Imus
I have to admit that I am not a big fan on Don Imus. His racially charged comments of late are not new. He is like most white liberals, who think they can use such language because they are above racism. When he says stuff like "nappy headed ho's", he assumes his audience knows he is joking. Which is why the guests on his show, mainly liberal media personalities and Democratic politicians, flock to him and grovel at his feet. I have never quite understood that. It's so unseemly to see people like John Kerry go on his show and listen to his rants and laugh politely. The recent controversy displays the hypocrisy. And the hyprocrisy is so thick, you need a chain saw to cut it. First of all, let's take the black community. If Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton don't like people calling black women "nappy headed ho's" then I suggest they first go after the people who have popularized it, namely black men. You can't listen to a black rapper, black comedian, or watch black comedy movie without black women being degraded. How many times have we heard these people refer to black women as "ho's, bitches, or worse...pussy"? Why go after a stupid comment by Don Imus when your own community treats it's women so poorly? Let's be honest, Imus wasn't trying to degrade black women. He was trying to be funny. Trying being the key word here. Secondly, where is all the liberal media types condemning him the way they condemned Mel Gibson? How about it Tim Russert, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather? How about it Hollywood? I am willing to bet they will keep silent about this, hoping it will just blow over. My personal opinion is that we can't keep picking and choosing what is offensive and what is not depending on our political tastes. For instance, if the mainstream media is going to say publically that they find the Mohammad cartoons offensive, then they should find the chocolate Jesus in New York equally offensive. If what Mel Gibson said about Jews while he was drunk is offensive, then Don Imus' comments are equally offensive. Either condemn everyone or shut up.
