A Vatican spokesman has said that it is worried that it may be brought before an international tribunal some day because of it's stance in opposition to abortion and gay rights. Many societies today see gay rights, for instance, as an issue of anti-descrimination laws. I don't doubt that things are headed that way. Most mores of society are in direct conflict with the teachings of traditional religion. So much for freedom of religion. The first amendment is slowly being corroded.
