Bigotry Against Muslims

The other day, I took my son for a bike ride at our local park. As we arrived I noticed that the only other people there was an elderly Islamic woman, wearing the tradition veil, with two little children. As I walked by, I could tell that she was nervous. I am sure she was wondering how I would react to her. Would I be a friend or foe? My heart sank. She was no different than me, simply there so her grandchildren could run around and play. I made a concerted effort to smile at her as I walked by. She almost let out a sigh of relief, as she smiled back. It has gotten me wondering about how we are treating Muslims here in the US. I don't think most people of good will want to treat Muslims with disrespect. How do you express outrage over radicals in the middle east and show respect for those Muslims, who seem moderate, that live amongst us?
